Garnerbiker's Journey on planet Earth

This blog started as a trip journal for the summer of 2011 Europe trip of 69 days. My wife Katherine, and I decided to use the entire summer break that teachers get, and go crazy. Everything was new to us. I was surprised at the blog's following. It has now become a tradition to travel on our breaks and blog about it. I write mostly as a journal for myself and students, but also give travel ideas to others that might want to travel like us, or go to the places we have seen. Take a look at what's on here. The experiences that I have had through travel are continuously shaping my life. I recommend you get out there and do it!

North Carolina Final Days

It all had to come to an end at some point.  We finished up our 3 days of diving, but then had two contingency days we saved for weather.  So what should we do?   Yes... Just chill at the beach house a do nothing but enjoy each other's company, the scenery and eat!

We used the back porch to dry out gear and repack everything.  Michael slept each night out in the hammock.  That chair in the center came into play at many times.

This is where Katherine and I slept.  Her sheets were skulls and hearts.  We left the sheets at my parents house and forgot to bring them, so we picked up some new ones on the way down.

After the days of diving, we had to get back to the shop and stamp our log books.  Upon entering, we had a special treat for the first mate of our boat.  The older guy Bud (70+) took a fall out of the helm and bloodied himself pretty bad.  It was nothing to him and Gavin cleaned him up very nicely.  We stopped by the ACE Hardware and got a box of galvanized nails, put them in a decorated bag and left them in the office.  Surely he enjoyed his breakfast of nails.

Things got a little crazy at night. The shark hats and shirts came out.

Katherine and Sera enjoying themselves.

Katherine and Sera enjoying themselves even more.

Merica!  Love it.  Like no place ever!

Kath, Sera, and Michael out back.

The 40M ham radio antenna.  We contacted my dad and Don (owner of the house) late on the last night there.  7.225 Mhz was the ticket!

A new map for the house.  It shows the sites we explored, plus many others we will return to explore.  What a great time.

Saying goodbye to Chris at the airport in New Bern.

My dad's Prius got a badge of honor.  The U-352 sticker from the shop.  Yeah!!!

Crabs on one of the nights.  Cooked alive.  The only way to go.

Not the full moon on Friday the 13th, but Thursday the 12 turned out quite nicely.

It is no small chore to recap this trip.  To say the least, it was amazing.  We had great weather, safe diving, and... I got some great pics.  As soon as it all ended we were talking about what our next trip will be.  It will happen sooner than later.  Now it is off to Virginia to see my mom and dad. What a trip!
