This has been one whirlwind of a trip to say the least. We left Dulles, VA this morning, flew to Brussels, waited for a while and then took another flight to Vilnius, Lithuania. We are far north , and I can feel it.
The hostel is located a short bus ride from the airport, and then a brief walk. The streets are narrow and winding in the center of the city. Our place is tucked away nicely from the road.
By staying in a hostel your are sure to make quick friends. There was a British woman getting the hostel briefing as we entered that turned out to be pretty nice. We later met Peter and Jerome from the USA. There was also a local female employee that joined in the conversation with a Japanese girl that currently lives in the States.
After dropping our bags in the room, Katherine and I headed to a local Lithuanian restaurant recommended by the hostel owner. There was soccer on the tv and a great smell. We chose wisely. We had a sampling of traditional foods from Lithuania, mostly meats and cheeses. The place also served some type of home made beer at cellar temp. It was almost like cask beer, but a little different, and still good. The other beers were all good too.
We wrapped it up around midnight and went to sleep. The group of four went out to see the local festivities in the center of town. In the morning 1 had not returned. We will have to get the story later.
