Garnerbiker's Journey on planet Earth

This blog started as a trip journal for the summer of 2011 Europe trip of 69 days. My wife Katherine, and I decided to use the entire summer break that teachers get, and go crazy. Everything was new to us. I was surprised at the blog's following. It has now become a tradition to travel on our breaks and blog about it. I write mostly as a journal for myself and students, but also give travel ideas to others that might want to travel like us, or go to the places we have seen. Take a look at what's on here. The experiences that I have had through travel are continuously shaping my life. I recommend you get out there and do it!

Roatan Experience

The excitement in Roatan happened so fast,  I didn't have enough time to blog. I feel really bad about that, but I do have a bunch of great photos.  I guess late is better than never, so here we go.

Roatan is a bay island just north of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea.  It is still part of Honduras, but is very secluded positioned out in the sea alone.  The airport is on the west end, and our dive resort was located very far east about a half hour by car.  This made for a quiet location away from most tourists and practically no diving traffic.  We maybe saw two dive boats from other companies the entire trip.  That blew my mind.

The resort was more than we expected.  Everything ran like clockwork and the service was amazing.  We have breakfast every morning made by a wonderful kitchen staff.  This place caters to divers looking to do one thing....... DIVE.  The boat captain and dive guide made each day thoroughly enjoyable.  We were able to dive nitrox on every single dive for a minimal charge which was nice.

You gotta check these guys out.  Davey is the man! REEF HOUSE RESORT

I took close to 1500 photos during the trip, but only put about 20 into the slideshow below.  There are some new critters that I've never seen before.  Below is an iPhoto photo stream which makes for easy viewing of the best photos.  Some are from Sera, our new friend from Chicago.

All the fish photos are in the album below.

The Reef House Resort is located on a key off of the main island of Roatan.  Danny, the boat boy met us at the taxi station to take us to the resort.  Awesome guy!

Katherine and Michael posing by the entrance sign.

The room was huge and the AC worked.  You can't ask for more in a place like this. Totally comfortable.

Behind Katherine is the table where we ate our meals.  This place can accommodate a lot of people, but it was only us and 3 others.  We pretty much had it all to ourselves.
