Garnerbiker's Journey on planet Earth

This blog started as a trip journal for the summer of 2011 Europe trip of 69 days. My wife Katherine, and I decided to use the entire summer break that teachers get, and go crazy. Everything was new to us. I was surprised at the blog's following. It has now become a tradition to travel on our breaks and blog about it. I write mostly as a journal for myself and students, but also give travel ideas to others that might want to travel like us, or go to the places we have seen. Take a look at what's on here. The experiences that I have had through travel are continuously shaping my life. I recommend you get out there and do it!

Off to Peru!

This is how it is all going down.

Our gear has been packed for a week and checklists reviewed.  Our trip to Peru for 3 weeks has begun.  We crammed in a car with backpacking and travel gear and Andrew (Katherine's brother) drove the party to the airport.  The air conditioner was struggling hard in the Las Vegas heat.  No worries.  It will be winter in Peru!

The trip begins with Garner, Katherine and Thomas departing from Las Vegas to Arequipa, Peru.  We are all teachers in the school district and are on year round calendars.  This will not be the 2.5 month long trips as before, but a 3 week "wham" and "bam."  I never though I would say a 3 week trip out of the country is short, but it's a perk of being a teacher for sure.

We will do a trek through Peru's Grand Canyon, called Colca Canyon.  Then, we are off to Lake Titicaca.  After that, we meet Katherine's brother Charles in Cusco, and we go for a 4 day hike on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

This is looking back towards Panama City as the airplane turns around to land at the airport.

At one point, we could see the Panama Canal and these are the ships waiting in the cue.

We are just chilling out during the layover.  Our next flight is to Lima, Peru.  We can't wait!!!
