Garnerbiker's Journey on planet Earth

This blog started as a trip journal for the summer of 2011 Europe trip of 69 days. My wife Katherine, and I decided to use the entire summer break that teachers get, and go crazy. Everything was new to us. I was surprised at the blog's following. It has now become a tradition to travel on our breaks and blog about it. I write mostly as a journal for myself and students, but also give travel ideas to others that might want to travel like us, or go to the places we have seen. Take a look at what's on here. The experiences that I have had through travel are continuously shaping my life. I recommend you get out there and do it!

Riga to Tallinn

We had to say goodbye to Riga, Latvia and our beautiful double room. That was only for one night, all the other nights were spent in a 6 bed dorm.
On the way to the bus station, Katherine wanted to be sure that I got a pic of an interesting sight we have constantly seen throughout the Baltics.
Men using purses!
This was first brought to our attention by Jerome, in Vilnius. He was given one by an Armenian dude in Russia. Some are very ornate or can be a simple flap design. I don't mean the Indiana Jones satchel, but a full blown purse. Most look very expensive, and are made of black leather. They keep all kinds of things in there! It's just difficult to get a sneaky picture of these guys. I think they are the same type of person that might get mad and cut out your kidney. Jerome is that kind of guy for sure!

This is the bus terminal in Riga catching our bus to Tallinn.
After a 2 mile walk from the bus station in Tallinn, we arrived at our hostel, Fat Margaret's. It's in a perfect location, right outside of the old city wall to the north. They are remodeling this entire place! Unfortunately, the guy in the bed next to us had a massive odor malfunction. He also happened to be a master snorer. Earplugs can solve most issues, but the smell did not leave until he did the next day.
The hostel is in the background with the brown roof. They have a mini pool and sauna in the basement open from 9-11am every day. Very nice!
After two weeks of rain, we arrived in Tallinn to sunny skies, low humidity and 70 degrees. After checking into the hostel we explored the old town in the beautiful weather. At dinner we had some awesome local brews and this mustard with our meal. It comes in an ointment type tube and is super tasty. I need to find some and bring it home.

Gman doing a little shopping with his cart buddy. Those things are super fun.

After dinner and some more exploring, we headed to the Rimi supermarket to pick up food for breakfast and lunch. Shopping in a foreign country is always an adventure. If you are a gambler you would enjoy the experience. It is always exciting when you get home to see if you bought what you think you did.

The evening was spent in the lounge area in the hostel watching YouTube Fail videos. Once I start watching those things, I can go on forever!
