After breakfast and showers we decided to take a hot walk to a market up the hill from the hostel to get some lunch supplies. The market was nice, being full sized, since the ones around the hostel are small but sufficient. After lunch from the market, a nap was in order since we awoke so early. We don't function well on less than 6 hours of sleep for more than a couple nights in a row. I guess we are getting old! Hostel time is a little different than real time and it takes some getting used to. Depending on the city and hostel, most of the very young people stay up all night and then get up at around 11 am or noon and head out to the beach or wherever for the day. So, a nap in the afternoon is actually quiet time around here. You might as well take advantage of it when you can.
After the nap we wanted to head out. A protest in the city clogged things pretty bad and we had to change our plans. I thought we were going to Belem, but that changed when we saw the congestion at the train station. We decided to use our free time to rest up and get some more blogging done. We were told by a local that we should have just waited a bit longer and the protest would have been finished. One should plan on short protests in Portugal, according to our source. The Portugese like to know exactly when the news crews will show up, run to the protest with their flags and signs just in time to make the news, then head to the beach. Our Portugese friend was rather annoyed with the lackadaisical attitude of his people.
Soon enough we were encroaching upon dinner time. Dinner is a treat in the Yes! Hostel Lisbon. For 10€ you get a 3 course meal with a small appetizer. The meal is prepared by a wonderful chef named Ana. Each night Ana comes in and creates a masterpiece. She is a local Lisbonian (if you call them that, maybe a Lisbonianite?) She arrives a few hours early and starts preparing everything in the hostel kitchen. The value of the meal is excellent, as Ana whips up delicious Portugese fare that would cost twice as much in a restaruant. The home cooked feel and taste of the meals is like being invited in to Ana's home, which is really cool. It's not just her skills in the kitchen that are spectacular. Ana is friendly and great to talk with throughout the evening. Go Ana!

Then, this guy shows up to wreck the place. Luis just brought more energy than we could handle in the kitchen.

Tomorrow, we plan to get up early once again and head to Belem. Maybe we will actually get there.
