Garnerbiker's Journey on planet Earth

This blog started as a trip journal for the summer of 2011 Europe trip of 69 days. My wife Katherine, and I decided to use the entire summer break that teachers get, and go crazy. Everything was new to us. I was surprised at the blog's following. It has now become a tradition to travel on our breaks and blog about it. I write mostly as a journal for myself and students, but also give travel ideas to others that might want to travel like us, or go to the places we have seen. Take a look at what's on here. The experiences that I have had through travel are continuously shaping my life. I recommend you get out there and do it!

Nusa Lembongan Day 2 + 3

It sure is great to get back in the diving routine.  You know;

Wake, Breakfast, Dive, Snack, Dive, Lunch, Nap, Chill, Dinner, Sleep, Repeat!

This Indonesian island life is something I could get used to.  It is quiet and peaceful once you get out of the congested areas.  The views are stunning with mountains, trees, and of course, the ocean.

We are seeing nudibranch everywhere!  You will have to check out the videos I edit to see those guys.  I only included one pic below from Michael's selection, but there is tons of footage on the GoPro. The current right off of Nusa Lembongan was rippin' on a dive on the north.  We put it at about 6 knots which let us cruise through some huge sections of colorful coral and fish  . We might have drifted 2 miles from entry to exit.  At times, it felt like a roller coaster.  You can duck and hide behind coral pieces to slow down and wait for you buddies to catch up, but there is no kicking back into the current.  All this distance in an hour dive!

Tommy has been staying busy while we are out diving.  He has been frequenting the yoga hut and even took an intro dive class with Matt, the manager of the dive resort.  During his dive in the pool, Katherine, Michael, and I watched from the side.  We worked on our heckling skills and took photos. Matt mentioned that his last job location in Djibouti, Africa was "hands down" the best place to dive for sea life that he has ever seen. He has dove around the world, and to make a statement like that must mean something.  He said the liveaboard dive boats are not that expensive and there are only 2 of them in the area.  I will have to look into that for sure.

Heading to the beach.

Local boat dudes relaxing around their trash.

Kleine Maus was first mate on a few trips.

Katherine and Michael on the boat after the dives.

K with her new, obviously pink kit.

Our eel friend.

If you took the time to look, there were nudis hiding everywhere.  Or, sometimes out in the open for everyone to see.

Yeah! Turtles.  Everyone loves these guys.

Tommy giving Matt a rough time in the pool.

Relaxing before dinner out on the front porch.  Surprisingly, there were only a couple of mosquitoes.  Really, I think we had one get into the room and no more.

This is the main drag on Nusa Lembongan.

This is an entrance to one of the many temples in the area.

Packing up gear in preparation for traveling to Ubud, Bali.

Our last restaurant on Nusa Lembongan.  Good choice.  But, I recommend getting reservations if you you are not super early eaters like us.

Tomorrow, we take the ferry back to the big island of Bali, and then are headed up to Ubud.  We will be away from the ocean, but will search out other types of cool stuff.  We want to try a hike up to the top of the volcano, Mt. Batur, and check out the local arts district.  The diving was great, but it's time to move on.
