Garnerbiker's Journey on planet Earth

This blog started as a trip journal for the summer of 2011 Europe trip of 69 days. My wife Katherine, and I decided to use the entire summer break that teachers get, and go crazy. Everything was new to us. I was surprised at the blog's following. It has now become a tradition to travel on our breaks and blog about it. I write mostly as a journal for myself and students, but also give travel ideas to others that might want to travel like us, or go to the places we have seen. Take a look at what's on here. The experiences that I have had through travel are continuously shaping my life. I recommend you get out there and do it!

Spokane, Washington

22 Jul 2013               Spokane, Washington

Our stop in Spokane was a great one.  We were able to spend time with Eric and Summer, and spend time with the 4 children.  What a riot!  Eric has a wonderful garden in the backyard complete with composting, raised planters, rabbits, and various watering experiments.

Eric took off 2 days from work just to chill with us, which was very nice.  We saw only a little of the town, but were able to chat and catch up in full.  Eric made tons of plans to keep us busy, but we felt like just relaxing.  The basement of the house provided refuge during the hot part of the day.  I found it interesting that we spent a lot of time down there watching The Walking Dead.  I am not really a horror or zombie guy, but this was fun with the whole group down there.

Spokane has a lot of running groups and Eric and Summer take part in a few of them.  Katherine and I partook in one of the evening runs for a few miles.  We started at a local brewpub/restaurant/casino/bowling alley, and took off.  The run was 4 miles or so, and ended back where we started.  It was interesting to run through some more parts of Spokane and see areas that I normally wouldn’t venture into by myself.  It really was quite nice.  When we were done, we had a few brews to celebrate our accomplishment with the other runners out front on the patio.

Eric and GMAN

My truck was in need of a tire rotation and oil change.  Eric did not have everything on hand, so we went to the local store to pick up the supplies.  Keeley came along with us, and she was a GREAT HELP.  The procedures were easily completed in the front of the Enser household making a big event.  Katherine and Eric just chilled in the camp chairs, Keeley made lunch, and G MAN sweated his booty off in the afternoon heat.  But the truck was happy with new oil and a 5 tire rotation!

Also, I thought Eric’s method of coffee making was something from the future.  Check this thing out.  I have never seen anything like this before.

How could I forget to mention? Katherine’s birthday week started in Spokane!  We went out for ice cream to “The Scoop” and had a blast.

It was great to see the crew again after our time in Cannon Beach.  The time flew by quickly, and now it is time to head to Glacier National Park.
