Facebook and what to do about it.
For the past year I have been battling with what to do with this social network. It has been in the news and every change is a top headline. The idea of it all is great, but upon inspection, I have found myself being bombarded with advertisements and useless posts from people that I don't even really know. I have concluded. This is a waste of my time. There are way too many projects at my house that I am falling behind on, and this FB thing is really throwing a wrench into it all. I have tried to "block" people with horrible consequences and limiting posts by these annoying people. Truthfully, no one cares that you kid just took their first poop alone, or how many drinks you had at the club last night. My favorite is a person that posts every time she gets her fingernails done. On a Saturday morning realizing that I just wasted my time looking at this, I want the time back I lost. What ever happened to the regular email directed towards someone? When you send someone a FB message, I noticed that no one replies in a timely fashion or gives a reply much thought. So, now I have decided to solely communicate with email, or if it is really important, I will call you on the phone. With the bombardment of information, people are spread entirely too thin and it is doubtful that a single human brain can process this media machine gun fire. As of now, the FB thing is just up there for a contact point with my email address visible for people that really want or need to contact me. Photo sharing will be through the .Mac gallery with a password. I figure, if you really want to see my pics, you will find the time to view them on my host server. By the way, the quality is better and there are no ads. Imagine that.
