Garnerbiker's Journey on planet Earth

This blog started as a trip journal for the summer of 2011 Europe trip of 69 days. My wife Katherine, and I decided to use the entire summer break that teachers get, and go crazy. Everything was new to us. I was surprised at the blog's following. It has now become a tradition to travel on our breaks and blog about it. I write mostly as a journal for myself and students, but also give travel ideas to others that might want to travel like us, or go to the places we have seen. Take a look at what's on here. The experiences that I have had through travel are continuously shaping my life. I recommend you get out there and do it!

Modern Times, Charlie Chaplin

Come see the Henderson Symphony this Friday at 8:15pm at the Henderson Pavilion.

Rehearsals have gone well and tomorrow night should be a treat. Previously, I was skeptical of Chaplin films, but now I find them not only funny, but intriguing. What they do in the film was cutting edge at the time and first class. Remember this is from 1936!

Trip prep

As the last few weeks roll by before we depart for Thailand, I am realizing that we are well prepared and ready to go. School is finishing on a great note and it has been a productive year. There has been a big shift here from working on the Datsun, to getting ready to leave for the summer. I am a new person preparing to leave on such a huge trip. Everything going through my mind is in reference to last year's trip. But thins time, it's a totally different area of the world. I wonder what will be similar with travel and what will be different.

I will be using the iPad as my main connection to the Internet, but I had some issues with it last summer. One, is picture uploading capabilities to the blog. Facebook is not a problem, but uploading to Blogger is a little different. So, I am in the process of testing Blogsy. The reviews say it should do what I need, but the dive hut in Phuket is not the best place to learn software. Two, is how to get photos from the SD card to the iPad. Luckilly, the gen 2 device allows camera still shots and video, but I went ahead and got the Mac adapter for SD to the iPad port. Last summer I took almost 5k photos at the highest .jpg resolution and it was 6 gigs. Thats fine for stills but when you go to shooting HD, it's a different story. There will be 3X16 gig cards and 3x8 gig cards making this trip. To protect it all, I will be storing the SD cards and IPad in special Pelican Cases.

I will go ahead and post just to try what it's like from the Blogsy app.
